The third edition of Kapur & Suri’s Basic Human Genetics is written by senior teachers, Drs Dipali J Trivedi and Paras S Shrimankar. This book is very well structured and easy to understand. It introduces reader to the basic concepts of genetics. The chapters are nicely presented having necessary information with adequate figures and tables. Editors have made an excellent attempt to present the complex topics of subject in the most simplified way so that it can serve MBBS students, as well as the students from allied medical sciences such as Dental, Nursing, etc. The book is very well written and designed. The third edition of Kapur & Suri’s Basic Human Genetics is written after a long span of around 25 years. The book deals in initial chapters with introduction, structure of chromosome and its abnormalities. In this edition, efforts have been made to add information regarding a brief history of genetics and classification of chromosome. In the chapter of chromosomal abnormalities, attempt has been made to provide information related to more genetic syndromes. For better understanding of various chromosomal abnormalities, the text is augmented with related illustrations. The other chapters serve topics on genes, inheritance, population genetics, prevention and treatment of genetic diseases. The study of patterns of inheritance is important for the diagnosis, prognosis and estimation of the recurrence risk in other family members.
