Vascular surgery has been arguably the most rapidly developing specialty over the last 40 years. Consider at that time, Duplex ultrasound was almost unavailable and even the measurement of foot Doppler pressures was in its infancy. The safety of complex arterial operations has improved dramatically allowing more demanding treatment to become available. Carotid endarterectomy is now a routine procedure in the right hands that has not been surpassed by endovascular techniques. Major amputations have been significantly reduced by distal bypass operations and endovascular intervention. The progressively better diagnostic facilities available to the physician lead to more accurate and quick diagnosis, which, in turn, is responsible for the better care and less suffering to the patient. There are a few textbooks in vascular surgery and they present a detailed view of the disease process, making it difficult for the general physician to scan through the text to manage his patient. The purpose of this textbook “A Practical Approach to Vascular and Endovascular Surgery” is to provide the medical students, the non-vascular doctors and the postgraduate medical students with a practical running knowledge of vascular diseases. It is user-friendly to the general physician who needs a quick- practical way to manage a vascular surgery patient. It is a practical book for any physician (cardiologist, general physician), surgeon and radiologist for quick reading. The book is concise and still exhaustive. Since common diseases occur more commonly, more stress is placed on their diagnosis and management. There are plenty of tables, illustrations and point-wise text to make it easy to understand and manage the patient.
