Abstract

The objective of this chapter is to introduce the neuropsychiatry. This chapter is divided into two parts following as neuropsychiatric manifest related to malaria and psychiatric aspects of diabetes mellitus and cardiovascular disease. Malaria is the most important parasitic disease of human beings. More than 40% of the world’s population lives in malaria endemic areas. Malaria is transmitted by different species of anophe-les mosquitoes; A. stephensi and A. culicifacies are the main vectors in this part of India. The pattern of malaria transmission is changing considerably in different regions due to ecological changes, resulting in altered vector distribution. Depression, anxiety disorders, dementia, schizophrenia, and bipolar disorder (BD) occur more commonly in diabetes mellitus (DM) patients. DM may be involved in the development of the first three conditions.
