‘Neuropsychiatry’ deals with the study of psychiatric problems in neurological disorders and the neurological problems in the classical psychiatric disorders. In the absence of a definitive guideline for the neurological examination in psychiatric patients, here we mention a tentative format for the basic neurological testing, especially appropriate in an emergency psychiatric setting. This chapter covers the higher mental functions, lobe function tests, language assessment, psychiatric disorders masquerading as neurological states, neurological aspects of classical psychiatric disorders, and tests to differentiate malingering and psychogenic symptoms from true neurologic disorders.
