Oral & maxillofacial radiology (OMR) is a type of specialty concerning the performing, understanding and interpretation of diagnostic imaging modalities used in dentistry and other health care professions related to neck, facial and oral structures. OMR has experienced an explosive unparalleled growth of knowledge and development of new technologies in dentistry. In radiographic interpretation even though the features for a diagnosis are present, it is difficult to pick them up unless they have a thorough knowledge of normal and abnormal appearances. The author provides a basic and practical account of the essential subject matter of both dental radiography and radiology needed for the students of dentistry and to serve as a reference source for the practicing clinician. The basic building blocks of the subject and progresses to the level of knowledge and sophistication required for practicing radiography efficiently and safely and for competent radiographic interpretation is the essence of the book. Earlier chapters cover the radiation physics, techniques of intraoral & extraoral radiography, radiation protection and infection control in dental radiography while the rest of the chapters are dedicated for the radiographic appearance of normal structures as well as variations that can occur and how to interpret and diagnose different lesions occurring in the oral and maxillofacial region. Many analogies are given to make it easy for the students to understand and remember and the book is mainly intended for them.
