Abstract

This chapter discusses various ailments and deformities related to the male genitalia, the signs and symptoms of the diseases and the differential diagnostic procedures to detect them. Undescended testis are common in infants and children. Mostly infants, children, as well as young adults, have hydrocele. Primary hydrocele is common among young adults. Torsion of the testis is commonly seen in adolescents. Chronic epididymo-orchitis is seen in young adults. Epididymal cysts, spermatoceles and varicoceles are all common among young adults. Some of these diseases are discovered during a routine medical examination. Testicular tumors are common in young adults. Among these tumors, teratoma and seminoma are common. Older men are prone to carcinoma of the skin of the scrotum. Examination of the scrotum involves palpation of the testis, epididymis and the spermatic cord. In a testicular tumor, the left supraclavicular group of lymph nodes may be enlarged and hard due to lymphatic spread of malignant cells along the thoracic duct.
