This book, Infertility Management Series Intrauterine Insemination, Infertility Management and Intrauterine Insemination. Many treatments have been developed to enhance the fertility of both men and women. One such method is artificial insemination (AI), where a semen sample is injected into the uterus of the woman. The semen may be from the husband or a donor. Ovarian stimulation is a pre-requisite for AI and can be achieved using oral drugs or intravenous injection of hormones such as hCG. As known from the natural path, only a fully functional follicle will be able to fuse with the sperm efficiently. The sperm need to be processed before insemination to avoid infections of uterus. In cases of insemination involving a donor, the Indian council of medical research has provided various guidelines which are to be followed. Ovarian hyperstimulation and multiple pregnancies are the major complications of AI. To avoid these major complications natural cycle intrauterine insemination was used. The method relies on a woman who has regular ovulation and does not require ovarian stimulatory drugs. The book gives a detail of Intrauterine Insemination and also discusses on some other related topics such as ethical and psychosocial aspects, medicolegal aspects and design, equipment and personnel management for intrauterine insemination laboratory.
