Ultrasound in Obstetrics & Gynecology

The book discusses about the development of ultrasonography in obstetrics and gynecology. They deal with various sections such as ultrasound physics and machines, clinical practice and legal and ethical issues related to the use of ultrasonography. They explain about how ultrasonography becomes an integral part of the clinical practice in managing pregnancy, gynecological problems, infertility and even asymptomatic pregnancy. It also discusses about the use of ultrasonography in detecting the abnormal fetus during the first, second or third trimester of pregnancy. It also explains the ability of an ultrasound in the diagnosis of various disorders that may occur during postmenopausal period in women. The advantages of 2D, 3D and 4D ultrasound are explained. It explains the advantages of using magnetic resonance imaging and CT scan over ultrasonography in the diagnosis of abnormalities of fetuses during early stage of pregnancy. The book also discusses about the training guidelines, the prenatal diagnostic techniques act, fetal rights and legal aspects related to obstetric ultrasound.
