Abstract

Intracardiac echocardiography with a phased-array catheter has been increasingly used to guide numerous procedures including TSP, EP ablation procedures, PFO/ASD closure and valvuloplasty. Monitoring for the development of cardiac complications such as thrombus formation or tamponade during the arrhythmia ablation procedures is another great use of ICE. ICE provides real-time anatomical and physiological information during these procedures. It has been shown to reduce procedural and fluoroscopy time, and improve patient outcomes. Advancement in ICE technology and incorporating it with other imaging and interventional modalities has been under investigation and will further broaden the potential use of this technology.
