Abstract

This chapter focuses on history of catheter ablation. Nontherapeutic catheter interventions are examined. In chronological order the major breakthroughs in catheter ablation that allow the present effective and safe management of complex cardiac rhythm disorders are discussed. This chapter reviews the remote history and what in future will be historical landmarks in this varied, complex and fascinating subspecialty of cardiology. Cardiac electrophysiology (EP) itself has a fascinating history that includes the fields of varied molecular channelopathies, cardiac resynchronization devices, microelectrode studies, implantable cardiac defibrillators, lead extraction, and all of the invasive therapeutic catheter techniques.
