Abstract

Nuclear cardiology speciality is no doubt a state of art procedure in the present day clinical practice from its inception till date. Various nuclear techniques have proved their superiority in the form of sensitivity and specificity over other non-nuclear techniques such as CT angiography, dobutamine stress echocardiography (DSE), cardiovascular MRI and contrast echocardiography in the detection and further evaluation of patients suffering from CAD. The various current concepts provide in a single noninvasive manner information about myocardial function (systolic and diastolic), perfusion, viability (ischemic, hibernating or stunned myocardium vs necrosed or scarred muscle), metabolism and neuroreceptor activity. In addition to these, with the introduction of newer radiopharmaceuticals and the improvement in software by nuclear cardiology scientists have further made cardiovascular nuclear medicine a dynamic field. Every year new applications are introduced and the old ones are refined.
