The book “The Short Textbook of Medical Microbiology for Dental Students” consists of the information required for dental students in the specialty of microbiology. The book is divided into eight sections and it incorporates colored and simplified diagrams, multicolored photographs, tables and illustrations for easy understanding. A section on general bacteriology discusses the history and scope of microbiology, morphology of bacteria, nutritional requirements of bacteria, media for bacterial growth, sterilization and disinfection, antimicrobial therapy, bacterial genetics, etc. A section on immunology discusses on immunity, antigen, immunoglobulins, antigen and antibody reaction, hypersensitivity, immunohematology, etc. A section on oral microbiology is also included. In this regard, various oral infections are discussed ranging from dental caries, periodontal infections to oral mucosal and systemic infections.
