The book “Essentials of Pharmacology for Dentistry” provides broad knowledge of pharmacology with emphasis on certain aspects which are needed by the dentist. This book is divided into three sections, the new chapter on drugs and aids having specific application in dental disorders and in dental care is highlighted in this edition. The first section describes about the general pharmacological principles involved in the drug therapy. The second section describes on the systemic pharmacology which provides a brief account on how the drugs act on various organ systems and the treatment of common disorders. The topic in each chapter defines the class of drugs, followed by their classification and the implications in dentistry are prominently elaborated. The medical emergencies like anaphylactic shock, seizures and angina are outlined during the dental treatment. The third section explains about the antimicrobials and the other drugs. The application of analgesics and NSAIDs in dental pain, dental anaesthesia, risks, etc., is been emphasized. The last chapter on drug interactions highlights mainly on the drug practice. This book provides core and contemporary pharmacological knowledge based on understanding of the rationale to the dental students and practitioners.
