Abstract

Tuberculosis of the cervical spine is essentially a medical disease with bracing and rest being the adjuvant modalities of therapy. The clinical course of the disease in children differs from that in adults. The role of surgery is clearly defined and is reserved for those patients who either develop a neurological deficit inspite of chemotherapy, who have complications due to compression of vital structures in the neck, those who have an impending deformity or those who present with late onset deformity and paraparesis. Anterior instrumented fusion surgery has the best clinicoradiological and functional outcome amongst all the described surgical procedures and is the procedure of choice in this condition.
