Abstract

A successful practice comes not only from excellent surgical skills and judgment, but also from good business management. Business management skills are generally more important in solo or small group practices because a health care professional is involved in the daily management of his or her office. However, in large group practices, business management knowledge and experience are important for every member of the practice because the business environment is frequently complex. Running a successful practice requires the following management philosophy to set the ground rules for running an orderly, efficient and ethical office: (i) Dedication towards providing the highest quality of care to patients. (ii) Emphasis on the fact that patients are the most important assets. (ii) Importance of remembering patients’ names and treating patients with courtesy. (ii) Fairness and insistence on the spirit and cooperation and teamwork among employees.
