This chapter starts with discussion about professionalism, main clinical decisions made in operative dentistry, two approaches in patient assessment, i.e. (i) Questionnaire method and (ii) Close discussion with patients, two models of treatment planning (i) Treatment oriented model and (ii) Problem oriented model. Then the chapter discusses in length about patient history taking methods and objectives in operative dentistry. The chapter concludes with discussions on dental charting and tooth notation systems.
