Abstract

Operative dentistry requires basic knowledge of anatomy and physiology of normal tooth form. The most important operative procedure is tooth preparation to receive a functionally and aesthetically acceptable restoration. Thus, the knowledge of fundamentals of tooth preparation is much for every operative clinician. Tooth preparation includes the mechanical procedures performed to remove all affected or infected tissue and to design the remaining tooth structure to receive a mechanically and biologically sound restoration. Tooth preparation involves a systemic approach based on the mechanical and physical principles which should be followed in an orderly sequence.
