Pathogenesis of infectious disease is not only dependent upon characteristics of the pathogen, but also upon immune response to it. As children develop from fetal life through infancy into childhood, so their immune systems are continuing to mature. Hence susceptibility to different infectious agents varies with age. This chapter describes the primary immunodeficiency disorders, the immunity of allergic diseases and food allergy. Also included in the chapter are the diagnosis of allergy and management of allergy.
