Abstract

Ovarian cancer is the sixth most common cancer and the seventh leading cause of cancer death worldwide. In most population based cancer registries in India, ovarian cancer is the third leading site of cancer among women. The highest incidence is seen in the 60-64 age groups. The early symptoms of ovarian cancer are overlooked as ‘digestive problems’ of middle aged women. Pelvic mass which on ultrasonogram is having a variegated echotexture is the most important diagnostic feature of ovarian mass. Intraperitoneal dissemination is the most common mode of spread of ovarian cancer. Other methods of dissemination are direct spread, lymphatic and blood born metastasis. The symptoms, signs and modes of dissemination are discussed.
