Antibiotics are substances which are produced by micro-organisms, suppress or kill other microorganisms at very low concentrations. These drugs attack cell structure and metabolic pathways of bacteria but not the human cells. Antibiotic prophylaxis recommended for cases of dental extraction, periodontal surgery, scaling and root planning, implant placement, etc. in cases of prosthetic heart valve, rheumatic heart disease, previous bacterial endocarditis, bypass graft surgery, etc.
