This book, a revised version of the previous textbook of biochemistry for medical students, includes only the relevant and essential knowledge for a student. The book is divided into seven sections covering topics such as chemical basis of life, general metabolism, proteins of plasma and tissues, nutrition, homeostasis mechanisms, molecular biology, and clinical biochemistry. These topics are discussed in detail through some subcategories such as subcellular organelles and Cell membranes, iso-enzymes and clinical enzymology, cholesterol, lipoproteins and cardiovascular diseases, simple, hydroxy and sulphur containing amino acids, and aromatic amino acids. Detoxification and biotransformation of xenobiotics, free radicals and anti-oxidants, body fluids, steroid hormones, DNA- deoxyribonucleic acid: structure and replication, and molecular genetics and control of gene expression, are other topics discussed in detail. Th book concludes with chapters such as applications of isotopes in medicine, methods of purification of biological compounds, liver and gastric function tests, and kidney function tests.
