Abstract

Blood and bone marrow cells morphology can be studied under stained smears only. The routinely used stains in hematology lab are known as Romanowsky stains which are the name of a group of stains consisting of basic and acid dyes. Mainly three of these stains with the names of Leishman’s, Wright’s and Giemsa are being used frequently in hematology lab. The basic dye is Methylene blue and the acid dye is Eosin. The stains are used along with a buffer of 6.8 pH. The staining procedure is very simple and cost effective. In this chapter the staining procedures of different Stains have been described.
