Abstract

In cases of Alpha thalassemia Haemoglobin H is present in different quantities depending on the type of deletion of Alpha genes. Maximum amount of haemoglobin H is present in 3 type alpha deletions (- -/- α) also known as haemoglobin H disease. Haemoglobin H can be demonstrated in Brilliant Cresyl Blue stained blood smears in the form of Heinz inclusion bodies giving the RBC a “Golf Ball” appearance.
