Disorders of micturition is the presenting symptom in about 2% of all children in clinical practice and about 7% in NephroUrology Consult service. It is distressing to a young child to have abnormal voiding patterns that are unacceptable to the society. Enuresis is one such disorder which refers to the inappropriate voiding of urine by a child who has reached an age at which bladder control is expected. The parents of these children need sympathetic attention. Patient history elicitation and clinical examination will form a strong basis for the parent’s confidence in the physician. Though the diagnosis is obvious, a full examination paying attention to the small details would go a long way in the therapeutic compliance of the parents and the child. Look for family history of wetting, as 30-70% of parents would have had nocturnal enuresis, slowness in achieving motor skills, stress and stressful event in life.
