The study of pressure volume relationships in the bladder is a recent development in urology. Types of urodynamic studies include upper tract urodynamics, which is the study of the pressure volume relationships in the renal pelvis and lower tract urodynamics, which is the study of the pressure volume relationships in the urinary bladder and urethra. Study of the lower tract urodynamics consists of following essential aspects, such as cystometry: study of bladder pressures during filling and voiding, urethral pressure profile: study of posterior urethral pressures during filling and voiding, uroflow, and electromyography of the external urethral sphincter. Urodynamics in children needs to be carried in a pleasant and friendly atmosphere and by personnel who are sensitive, caring and gentle.
