Jaypee Brothers till date maintain a monopoly in medical book publishing in India. Jaypee Brothers, which started out as a small publication house (300 sq. feet) with just a few titles in 1969, has now has developed into a mammoth multinational corporation having ten branches all over India and United States. Not only through out India, this publishing house also made its presence felt in the entire International publishing community. The foundation of Jaypee Medical Publishing Company was laid by Late Shri Sohan Lal Vij in the year 1969, the period during which the medical book publishing was still in its infancy in India. With his powerful, agile, intuitive instinct and contemplative imagination, he envisaged the future of Medical Sciences book publication in India. After his sad demise in the year 1972, the company’s responsibility fell in the hands of his illustrious son, Mr. J.P Vij. Since then there has been no looking back. The company has continued to make progress by leaps and bounds.

Achievements
The company has gained much in the last 39 years. Presently, Jaypee as the pioneers in medical publishing is linked to the world through its global access program with its distribution network spread across the world. The company is an official publisher of publications of Federation of Obstetrics and Gynaecological Society of India (FOGSI), and Indian Academy of Pediatrics (IAP). Jaypee publishing has produced over 2200 of its own titles in a wide range of medical subjects, including all branches of medicine as well as related fields including dental, nursing, pharmacy, veterinary and allied sciences not only all across India, but also globally. Jaypee’s world class and real state-of-the-art works are now being exported around the globe. Jaypee presently has a network of more than 400 distributors, booksellers within India and overseas and holds ten stockholding offices at Delhi, Banglore, Kolkata, Chennai, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Nagpur, Ahmedabad, Kochi and Lucknow. Recently the Company also opened a branch in St. Louis, Missouri (USA). Some of the company’s subsidiaries are Jaypee Medical International (JMI), Jaypee Pharma Customized Imprints Pvt Ltd, AJR Medi Solutions and Jaypee journals. Today, Jaypee publishes its own journals. Some of the journals published are Journal of foot and ankle surgery, Journal of Ultrasound in obstetrics and gynecology, Journal of laparoscopic surgery, Journal of current glaucoma practice, Journal of clinical pediatric dentistry, Journal of implantology, just to name a few.

Jaypee presently is a Publisher as well as a distributor of some of the world’s renowned titles. Jaypees titles are being distributed globally by renowned distributors in the USA, UK, Canada, Australia, Africa, Middle East and the Gulf including companies like Lippincott Williams & Wilkins, Hodder Arnold, UK., The McGraw-Hill Companies, USA, Blackwell Publishing, UK, Springer, Germany and Elsevier, USA, just to name a few. Jaypee is an exclusive distributor in India for FA Davis Company, USA; McGraw Hill USA; Hodder, UK, etc.. Some of the titles are even translated into Spanish, Arabic, Turkish, Portuguese, Chinese & Indonesian language.Companies such as Amolca,McGraw Hill,Pan America,Goonabara Koogan etc have translated few titles of Jaypee.

The company received recognition by World Association of Laparoscopic Surgeons, when the CEO Mr. Jitendar P Vij was invited as the guest of honor to present the award of FMAS (Fellowship in Minimal Access), Laparoscopy Hospital, India, to the doctors of 2005 batch who had received the fellowship. This institute has been recommended as one of the best laparoscopic educational resources by Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh and has trained more than 1,500 surgeons from almost all the countries over a span of less than 4 years.

Jaypee obtained the rights to revise and publish the seventh international edition of the Book “Jeffcoate’s Principle of Gynecology”, from Arnold. This book, originally written by Sir Norman Jeffcoate, (1932-1991) serves as a comprehensive bible of Gynecology. Sir Norman Jeffcoate served as a full-time Professor of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Liverpool Women's Hospital for nearly thirty years, acted as the president of RCOG from 1969 to 1972 and was knighted in the year 1970. This book had been earlier revised in the year 2001, but Arnold soon felt the need for revising it. The 7th edition of the book has been doing roaring business since January 2008, and nearly 2000 copies have already been sold. Jaypee has produced many other bestsellers having International reputation.

Recently, in April 2008, Jaypee Brothers took over another medical publishing house “The Arora Medical Books”, Lucknow INDIA. Though such events are of common occurrence in the West, this event was first of its kind in the history of medical book publishing in India.
