The aim of this book is to focus on the general surgical operations. General surgery is a surgical specialty that focuses on abdominal contents including esophagus, stomach, small bowel, colon, liver, pancreas, gallbladder and bile ducts, and often the thyroid gland (depending on local reference patterns). They also deal with diseases involving the skin, breast, soft tissue, trauma, peripheral vascular surgery, and hernias. This book has been divided into 19 sections containing 101 chapters. Section 1st discusses the general principle. It includes decision making in surgery, preparations for operation, a method of hemostasis in surgery and principles of day case surgery. Section 2nd describes the head and neck. Section 3rd describes the breast. It includes an operation for benign breast lesions and surgery for breast cancer. Section 4th discusses the thorax. Section 5th gives the description on the esophagus. Section 6th describes the abdomen. It includes abdominal incisions and closure, intestinal anastomosis, intestinal stomas and laparotomy for abdominal trauma. Section 7th gives the description on stomach and duodenum. Section 8th describes the hepatobiliary surgery. It includes operative drainage of subphrenic abscess, surgery for liver infections, and surgery for portal hypertension, cholecystostomy, and laparoscopic cholecystectomy. Section 9th and 10th describes the pancreas and spleen. Section 11th and 12th discusses small bowel and appendix. Section 13th discusses large bowel. It includes colectomy, total colectomy with mucosal, operations for diverticular disease, management of rectal cancer and operations for rectal prolapse. Section 14th and 15th describes the Anal and Perianal and hernia. Section 16th gives the description on genitourinary surgery. Section 17th, 18th, and 19th gives the description of adrenals, vascular surgery and miscellaneous.
